Now, as much as I might wish to see the spunky, "tough" version of Aerith we see in FFVII, lines such as "You're so strong, Zack" blah blah blah "I feel safe with you" seriously said, wouldn't bother me so much, except for something else. Sure, she says in THAT OTHER GAME that she grew up in the slums, she is used to danger, and therefore monsters should be an old hat.

Sure, in Elmyra's flashbacks of her, we're given this:

"Aerith and I became close very quickly. That child loved to
talk. She used to talk to me about everything."

(We are back at the living room, but some time past. Aerith as a young
girl runs down the stairs, then trips on the rug. Elmyra rises from the
table, helps her up, hugs her, then Aerith scampers out the front door.
The living room disappears off the top of the screen.)

"She told me she escaped form some sort of research laboratory
somewhere. And that her mother had already returned to the planet, so she
wasn't lonely... and many other things."

So not only is she very animated (while being somewhat weird), she doesn't cry or anything after falling, even at seven. I do appreciate some strangeness/insecurity, given her past, given the few scattered moments in game, and I do not loathe that in some ways Zack could have been an inspiration to and influence on her. (I like the DMV scene with the flowers 8) lol). I mean, she grew up in a lab/under a plate. Though given that Zack IS flirting with EVERYONE I can't fathom what he sees more in this version of her than anyone else.

No, what really gets my goat, is clearly that every fucking facet of her later personality is apparently a result of Zack.

That background image of Aerith in front of the Highwind, because she wanted to fly? Obviously because of Zack, because he made sure she didn't fear the SKY! The fact her entire outfit is suffocatingly pink? O I GUESS SHE JUST WANTED TO REALLY REMEMBER ZACK FIVE YEARS LATER LOL. Her forward, upbeat, flirty personality MUST ALL BE ZACK, as must every interaction with Cloud! Flirting, the promise, the date, THE ASKING HIM TO TAKE HER ON THE HIGHWIND, ffsdlk everything. I see no reason not to believe her when she tells Cloud that she gets over Zack, and she says as much herself, essentially again, in their date, when she chooses to focus on CLOUD. -- And, oh right, he tells her to sell the flowers. But that actually didn't bug me as much as it could have.

This is bullshit, and I don't like it, the massive retconning it's doing to make them quadruply more serious (even, leaute says, making "Maiden" and it's focus on Cloud less canon). IMA START SHIPPING ZACK/CISSNEI OUT OF SPITE.

ACTUALLY, I did mean to reflect on Anemone from Eureka Seven, with icemilk in mind.

I remember when I pimped the series to her, I was v. excited for her to see Anemone. But it's strange, because Anemone isn't in it very much, she has a very sporadic role - but though Eureka and Renton dominate in terms of screen time, I can't help but feel Anemone leaves a stamp. It's like she peed on my rug and I can't get the smell out ): bad analogy but lol icemilk and I and eureka pee jokes.

Especially in regard to Dominic and Anemone, and their last few episodes, and the way initially I was moved but I'm evermore moved the more I look back on it. It hits me more and more and more and there is something about Anemone and Dominic and Anemone that is all about the spaces in between, the sudden, surprise realization that affection has SNUCK UP ON ME AND WTF I LOVE HER AND THEM? She grows on youuu.
